Data Modelstorming Workshop

Lawrence Corr

Learn Agile BI data requirements modeling and visual collaboration using BEAM

Join Lawrence Corr, bestselling author of “Agile Data Warehouse Design” for a highly practical one-day introduction to data modelstorming (data modeling + brainstorming) using BEAM (Business Event Analysis & Modeling). You will learn how visual thinking, narrative, 7Ws and lots of Post-it ™ notes can help everyone think more clearly about data requirements and co-create better data models.

Have you ever been disappointed with the results of traditional data requirements gathering and data modeling, especially for BI and data analytics? Ever wished you could ‘cut to the chase’ and somehow model the data directly with the people who know it best and want to use it the most. However, that’s not a realistic alternative, is it? Data stakeholders don’t do data modeling not even dimensional modeling!

But what if that wasn’t the case?
BEAM helps close the gap between data requirements and database design. It allows business and IT professionals to model data collaboratively to not only gather and prioritise requirements but also create a shared understanding of data opportunities and design more flexible BI solutions.

Highlights

  • The whys of data modelstorming: Why it’s different from traditional data modeling and why we need it
  • Drawing user-focused data models: better alternatives to entity relation diagrams for visualising data opportunities
  • Using BEAM to discover key data sources and define rich data sets
  • How making toast can encourage collaborative modeling within your organisation
  • Modelstorming templates which you can download and start using straight away

Attendees will have the opportunity to practice collaborative modeling during team exercises throughout the day and will be able to download useful BEAM modelstorming templates after the workshop. They will also receive a workshop workbook, BEAM reference card and an ebook copy of Agile Data Warehouse Design.
