Capturing Complex Reporting Logic in the ETL: Some Examples

Presentation Summary

Steve Grantham -Boise State University

In order for a data warehouse to fulfill its promise as a single source of truth, it must provide for complex logic to be moved out of individual reports and captured accurately and definitively within the data warehouse itself. The desired logic must be well defined, agreed upon, and incorporated into the ETL, and in some cases, new dimensions or measures must be created. In this presentation I will describe several specific examples in which I incorporated such logic into Boise State’s iStrategy data warehouse, with the hope that seeing these examples may be helpful to those who are contemplating similar work.
