Presentation Summary
Jordan Meyer - Humboldt State UniversityAcademic researchers in information visualization are developing toolkits to handle the onslaught of complex data sets on the web. This is happening largely within the emerging field of data journalism, where visualizations must be both informative and attractive in order to draw in readers. Though many of these tools can be of significant benefit to the DW/BI community, they remain largely unnoticed.
This presentation will introduce three of the most powerful toolkits available for advanced visualization: Protovis, Processing and Prefuse. Examples from each, with integration techniques for existing BI suites will be demonstrated, as well as a comparison of their capabilities and limitations.
